Loyalhanna Dam Service Bridge

Project Description: This USACE – Pittsburg District design-build project called for the rehabilitation of the 100-year-old (+/-) concrete service bridge over the Loyalhanna Dam in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Access to the project was limited to the service bridge deck and a barge. Following USACE’s direction, the project was broken down into options (phases) based on the need to accommodate gantry crane movement and general electrical work while keeping the facility in fully operational mode.

SEG’s structural engineering team did a thorough analysis of the existing structure and produced a plan to revitalize the bridge, and our in-house concrete crews performed all the concrete work to include demolition and installation of new materials. The base contract focused on Monoliths 5, 6 and 7, as well as Service Bridge Span 6-7 and Pier 7. Additional monoliths and spans were addressed in the contract options.

Project Location: Loyalhanna, PA

Owner: US Army Corps of Engineers

Cost of Construction: $4.7M
