Project Description: The Sheila Watkins Child Development Center (CDC) at the Department of Energy (DOE) Germantown, MD campus occupies about 8,200 SF in a dedicated single-story building that Is part of the Department of Energy Germantown, MD Campus. The pre-fabricated facility was built in the early 1990s. The building includes four classrooms, an infant room, a multi-purpose lobby area, reception with offices, a kitchen and three playgrounds. This GSA Design-Build project involved design and subsequent construction of new playgrounds for the Child Development Center (CDC). The existing playgrounds required renovations and upgrades to correct unsafe conditions and bring them into compliance with current Federal playground safety standards and specifications.
