Department of Veteran's Affairs 2nd Floor Optimization

Project Description: SEG provided design-build services for a 36,000 SF renovation of the 2nd floor at the Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO) in Washington, DC, enhancing space for the Human Resources Administration (HRA) and Office of Operations, Security, and Preparedness (OSP). The project optimized mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and lighting systems, integrating advanced LED lighting, motion sensors, and updated the Building Automation System (BAS) for modern controls. Fire/life safety systems were upgraded to meet NFPA and GSA standards, and the space was reconfigured for hybrid work with hot-desking, collaborative spaces, and sound masking for privacy. Given the building’s historic status, SEG coordinated with the GSA Regional Historic Preservation Office to preserve architectural integrity, conducting phased work to minimize disruptions while adhering to strict safety, sustainability, and energy standards.

Project Location: Washington, DC

Owner: General Services Administration
